Iain’s career started in nuclear physics at the Los Alamos National Laboratory in laser-fusion, non-proliferation, and counter-terrorism. After work with the US Army and an MBA from INSEAD, he rebuilt the aerospace and defense practice for Accenture UK, then moved into a mix of startups, solo consulting and executive roles under Insight SRI, which launched in 2003.
Interim posts have spanned media and telecommunications (Head of Internet for ntl / Virgin Media) and venture capital where, at 36, he was credited by Libraries House as the then-youngest-ever CEO in UK venture capital. The largest deals he has structured include a nine-figure factory investment, a $480M utility joint venture (for British Gas), and a $530M defense IT outsource (for Accenture).

I’m always on the lookout for interesting projects or companies with a future, and I have supported ventures with direct angel investments, consulting services (usually for pay, occasionally for sweat equity), and advisory roles.
I bias towards ‘real tech’ — to me that means hardware and applications based on new physics and engineering ideas. However I’ve invested at all stages and in many sectors, and admit my best returns came from non-tech companies and real estate. Nothing is off the table.
